HEY! LISTEN: Kimberly Townsend — “Steps”

NYC based singer/songwriter Kimberly Townsend’s the real deal. Drawing influences from Brandi Carlile, Trevor Hall, and Sara Bareilles (though I definitely hear some Ani in there,) Townsend uses her entire body as an instrument, giving a sense of complexity and magic to songs founded upon the straightforward truth.

Townsend writes to heal and ground herself, and she shares them to make you feel things. Her most recent work explores the weight of getting lost and feeling stuck, and the empowering release that comes from finding one’s way again. On “Steps,” Townsend uses repetition to eloquently capture the stuttering stop-start of personal growth to moving effect. No matter where you are in your journey, there’s something in “Steps” to catch you off-guard.

Townsend’s debut album, The History and the Heart of It, was released on January 18, 2019.
